My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult discusses tough but necessary issues. Thirteen year old Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for her sister, Kate, who has been plagued with a rare form of leukemia since the age of two. Anna was genetically engineered to be a perfect match for Kate. SInce birth, Anna has been donating her platelets, blood, and bone marrow to her sister. Anna had never challenged this before. She just accepted that this was something she needed to do to help save her sister’s life. However, Anna did challenge her parents when it was expected Anna would donate one of her kidneys to Kate. Anna tries to refuse the donation but her parents refuse to listen to her. Anna hired a lawyer to represent her in a medical emancipation suit to allow her to have control over her own body. Picoult discusses the difficult decisions and choices a family must make when a child is diagnosed with a serious illness. Picoult wrote about a very controversial issue. Genetic planning, the prospect of creating babies for health purposes and the ethical and moral fallout that results. A question the author leaves us with is it okay to create a child in order to save another child? This is a very well written book and it is a real page turner. Once you pick it up you will not be able to put it down.

Wow! This book sounds really interesting. I found the plot very insightful. In context it is weird to think that a child is used for another’s health. I liked how you showed how the author ties in ethical morals as well as family issues. Nice work!

I think that you did a wonderful job on this. I truly felt as if I was reading the back of a book cover, which makes me think I might have done my wrong now lol…At any rate – I thought your excitement for the piece really shined through to the reader.

Hey! You did a wonderful job on your book review….it really makes me want to go out and buy the book!!! The question the author leaves the reader with like you said correlates with the title brilliantly, “My sisters Keeper”. Excellent job at selling the book!!!

Hey–
I thought that you did a really great job on your book review. This sounds like a really interesting story and I definitely would like to read it. I felt like you gave just the right amount of information. I didn’t feel uninformed, but I didn’t feel like you ruined any possible endings to the story either. Great job!

I read this book too and I agree that it was really good. At the time I read it I was writing a paper on whether or not cloning is ethical, so the book really made me think.
